Matthew's story

On the 8th of September 2023 our worlds were tragically torn apart. Our wonderful son, Matthew, made what we believe to be an impulsive decision to end his life. Our only son was 19 at the time and had a lifetime ahead of him. Matthew was creative, bright and had a great sense of humour, the life and soul of the party… He was a kind and compassionate soul, loved by his friends and family.

Our local community spoke highly of Matthew and with fondness gained through his ability to connect and engage with people making them feel valued and understood. He would help anyone if he could often without a thought for himself. His legacy continues to inspire many, particularly through the Matthew Lock ADHD Charity, which his Mum and Dad established in his memory and honour.

Matthew the presenter

Matthew first gained public attention at the age of 15 when he appeared on ITV's This Morning to share his passion for vacuum cleaners (a hobby he began at just two years old). His enthusiasm and expertise led to multiple appearances on the show, where he reviewed various vacuum models and demonstrated his deep knowledge of the subject. Matthew loved appearing on This Morning, reviewing gadgets, vacuums and household items as this had been his passion since he was a toddler. Matthew was remembered as a "delightful young man" with an "infectious" passion for mechanics.

Matthew the councillor

Beyond his media presence, Matty was deeply involved in his local community in Maghull, Merseyside. He served as a Labour town councillor and parish councillor, working on initiatives such as local clean-up campaigns and infrastructure improvements. His commitment to public service earned him the admiration of his peers and constituents.

Matthew Lock ADHD Charity and legacy

In honour of Matty's memory, we have established the Matthew Lock ADHD Charity. The charity aims to raise awareness about ADHD and its co-existing conditions, emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis and intervention. The foundation seeks to support individuals affected by ADHD and help them unlock their full potential.

Matty's legacy lives on through the charity and the many lives he touched with his passion, dedication, and boundless energy. His story serves as a reminder of the impact one individual can have on their community and the importance of supporting those with ADHD.
